Never park Porsches near water, they like to swim apparently (video after the jump)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Apparently a rental van pushed this 356 Speedster Replica into a Canal in London yesterday. The video is pretty funny though.

I can imagine everyone involved is super glad that car’s just a replica.

oops!
poor bastard van driver.

You bet. Especially since fibreglass floats. Even with a Kombi engine weighing it down!

Yeah, definitely better than seeing a real went wrecked. But still it’s somebodies car

Exocet
for the owner, perhaps. I don’t know how insurance works over there in Englandland, but here that thing might be be insured for what the owner has into it. :(

Irony of “ video after the jump” of a Porsche jumping in to water. Gave me a giggle.

Parshes sure do love water

i was wondering about how the headlight got that way, then i saw this
that looked intentional
looked like the van became
a Ram
Transit.

It wasn’t intended initially, but I too saw the irony in that :)

The FP article said it was owned by a dealer (was for sale for £30,000, which seems like a lot for a Beetle? )

Transit: the new U-boat launching device!

It definitely looks like it floats well enough

That pic is presumably from after they pulled it out:
They just got it on the flatbed and then left it in the same place it started.

Nice kits (like Beck) fully sorted and built well can be pricey, just like a really, really nice Cobra. Some have Subaru engines, some have very well built VW engines, and some (also like Cobra kits) are just shit.
If this thing was 10K worth of parts, and 20K worth of labor, the owner might be out of luck

that headlight is trying to float away.

i’d bet most of it is salvageable. just needs a good dry off before the ignition key gets turned again.

OH i get it RAM. bazinga.

Probably, and if some parts need to be replaced, it’s probabl y very easy to do.

This one was owned by a classic car dealer who had it for sale for around $30,000, so probably a decent one. They’re saying they expect it to be a total loss, which I don’t understand - air cooled Beetle engine, fiberglass body, basic interior, and a simple electrical system should all make it pretty easy to repair after a little flooding.
